# Question: How can we adjust the volume of the coqui?

by liz |

Currently the speaker is very quiet, and i'm wondering how to raise it. It also crossed my mind that if it is made louder in the future, perhaps someone might want to lower it! Thank you.

I'm not sure about this one... but maybe we could look on the web for "increasing amplitude of 555 circuit"?

It seems to be saying you can increase amplitude with... increased voltage? so, maybe, try attaching a 9 volt battery? I warn you, i don't really know what I'm talking about so you may fry your circuit 🍞

that page does say that: Being that we are using a 555 timer chip, the maximum voltage that a 555 timer can withstand is 18V.

Changing volume can be done by adding a potentiometer into the loop. Here is an easy description of how http://www.learningaboutelectronics.com/Articles/How-to-vary-the-volume-of-a-buzzer

Thanks @warren and @roberts_ecofarm! This information is really helpful, and gives a way forward. I will dig through my boxes of extra parts and find a potentiometer, maybe also a battery case for a 9v battery, then remake this circuit. I'll write in with how it goes.

Also if you have a resistor you could test the idea bc a potentiometer is an adjustable resistor, if that's helpful.
