Issue 2

Timeline of issue 2:

  • 2 months overall (started late february: publish end of April 2012

Featured map: http://publiclaboratory.org/map/chandeleur-islands-louisiana/2010-05-09

Create template for document

  • Print templates should be kept in the grassroots-mapping-forum dropbox -- email jeff@publiclaboratory.org to be invited
  • Start with Mathew's Google Docs templates, which specify everything in detail: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1QQIOm47mwIzOL3td_d9cq6Jdy-rKv-tav9UTWjBeRhA/edit#slide=id.g450834c_0_4

  • Text Templates-- Mathew-- 2page automailer

    • Create editable google doc templates for images, text that work with: Calculation guidelines based on a ½ column grid. ½ column = x picture area = x text. Each subdivision = x space for titling
    • this requires editorial decision to calculate page counts for this issue (right?)
  • Map templates-- Stewart
    • Vector files for:
    • standard scale, compass, lat long siting on map...
  • Layout for print-- Jeff? -- adobe ain’t accessible/FOSS-- can we do this with LaTEX?
    • Wiki accepts LaTEX.... can we make a fill-in generator for the doc?

How do we involve the PLOTS community? we shouldn’t be writing this...can we create it the way the blog is, from research notes?

We are here in timeline

  • send template out to staff/team - DATE
    • include “sketching” instructions for PDF preview -skitch.com screenshots
    • have everyone get a chance to block in the articles
  • vote on preferred layout options/features - DATE

    • layout
    • which map print? (see above)
      • inside feature-- b&w line art Korean mapping, something else- can’t be ink heavy.
      • I like the idea of a light, all line art instructional every month... invents future work
  • talk to local site to share editorship?

  • article ideas:
    • safe flying areas in butte
    • Adam-- wetlands? barnraising? ‘cept he’s in the Grand Canyon
    • RI-- all about thermal cameras? how to, why...

Sections

  • photography--
  • interviews-shannon--Gulf Restoration Networks
