An electronic switch from ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130364162243?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 The electrical bit is irrelevant.

A bit retro but saves worries about batteries and loose wires etc

For tripod work the IKEA 60min. cooking timer is great: http://www.howtogeek.com/95576/hack-an-ikea-kitchen-timer-for-cheap-panning-time-lapse-photography/
