Sublimation and Deposition Impact Our Water Resources
The Water Cycle is an interesting and involved process representing the massive and continual transition of water through its three states. Water exists in one of three states, solid, liquid, or gas. The Water Cycle thus illustrates how the Earth replenishes its water. The two types of water on planet Earth are saltwater and fresh water. There is approximately 97.5 percent of the water that is saltwater, while only 2.5 percent of the Earths' water is fresh. It should also be noted that a large quantity of the Earth's fresh water is not readily drinkable.
The processing of the water on Earth through this cycle involves Melting (from ice glaciers to liquid), freezing (from liquid to ice), Evaporation (from liquid to gas), Condensation (from vapor to liquid) precipitation (condensed water falls) Sublimation (from solid to gas) and Deposition (from vapor to solid).

Deposition is an exothermic process where water vapor transforms directly into solid form without going through the liquid phase. This differs from sublimination which is an endothermic process where ice transforms into vapor without going through the intermediate liquid stage.

The difference between deposition & sublimation are the reverse process of a gas going to a solid is known as deposition, the transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas state, without passing through the liquid state is known as sublimation.

Sublimation - is when ice transforms directly into water vapor, skipping the liquid phase. Deposition -is when water vapor cools into ice, also skipping the liquid phase. These affect our water resources because the water won't ever turn into a liquid, and we won't be able to drink it.

Deposition-water transforms into a solid without going through the liquid phase. (Exothermic reaction) Sublimation- transforms into a vapor without going through the gas stage. endothermic- chemical; reaction when more energy is needed when released. Infiltration- slower moving water. It can soak into the ground during a process.

Sublimation (endothermic) is the conversion between the solid and the gaseous phases of matter, with no intermediate liquid stage. The opposite of sublimation is deposition (exothermic), where water vapor changes directly into ice.

Deposition is the geological process in which sediments, soil and rocks are added to a landform or landmass. Wind, ice, water, and gravity transport previously weathered surface material, which, at the loss of enough kinetic energy in the fluid, is deposited, building up layers of sediment.
Sediment can be transported as pebbles, sand, and mud, or as salts dissolved in water. Sublimation is the conversion between the solid and the gaseous phases of matter, with no intermediate liquid stage. For those of us interested in the water cycle, sublimation is most often used to describe the process of snow and ice changing into water vapor in the air without first melting into water. The difference between exothermic and endothermic is, endothermic is accompanied by or requiring the absorption of heat. While exothermic is accompanied by the release of heat. Chemical reactions that release energy are called exothermic. In exothermic reactions, more energy is released when the bonds are formed in the products than is used to break the bonds in the reactants. Chemical reactions that absorb (or use) energy are called endothermic.

Deposition is when a gas becomes a solid without undergoing the liquid stage. Sublimation is when a solid becomes a gas without undergoing the liquid stage. Example: dry ice (solidified carbon dioxide)

Deposition is when water vapor transforms into solid form without going through the liquid phase first while sublimation is where ice transforms into vapor without going through the liquid stage. An example of sublimation is mouth balls according to the video watched in class.
