As a group or in breakout groups, identify themes and talk about why AQ matters to Cypress Hills. After discussing for 15-20 minutes, give the students 5-10 minutes to write down: * why/how AQ matters to him/her * why/how s/he thinks it matters to their parents * why/how s/he thinks matters to their grandparents In class Activity B: Develop a survey to find test these ideas by finding out what your community knows about AQ and how they find out about issues in the community. * Methodology * Who will you ask these questions to? [ Parents, Grandparents, Neighbors ] * Everyone ask the same questions to get a good sample of responses * Multiple choice vs open-ended questions * In groups/Breakout → Survey Questions: * Ask if the respondents have ever experienced the air quality markers discussed in Activity A * Find out where in the neighborhood people go * Do they take the subway? Community centers? Schools? Popular restaurants/shops? * Where they get their information from * Meetings, online, neighbors, flyers in buildings, etc * Find out how people talk about air quality * CH students in groups with big chart paper * who should we tell this to? * what we're saying? * why we're saying it? * how will we say it? * where will we say this? * Group presentations (5-10 minutes) Homework: Create a Research Note on PublicLaboratory.org with 3-5 responses to the survey developed in class. Learning Outcomes * eggs collect data, data is on COSM as line graphs * how people experience the data we collect * how people talk about data and understand it * many ways of communicating data |
